WHITE TEA
Ancient records show that White Tea was being drunk by Chinese emperors of the Song dynasty as long as 1500 years ago. The drink was highly regarded for its ability to combat tiredness, lift the spirits and to strengthen the will. It is said that White Tea is also one of the ingredients of the elixir of immortality. Today White Tea, also known as "Yinzhen" (silver needles) is mainly produced in China in the high mountains of Fujian province. Only the youngest leaves, the upper tip of the tea plant, are harvested in spring within a few days of the white buds appearing. White Tea is well documented as an important antioxidant. However, recent research shows that White Tea is 100 per cent more effective and contains three times the amount of polyphenols as Green Tea. Polyphenol is a highly active anti-oxidant derived from tea. Its ability to strengthen the human body's immune system and to inhibit the activity of free radicals is well recognized today. Latest American studies show that White Tea not only neutralizes free radicals but also protects the guardians of the skin immune system, the Langerhans cells.
